In a rapidly globalizing world that is opening up a multitude of opportunities for the workforce, there exists much potential for women in industry to rise to positions of leadership. However, issues such as the existence of a glass ceiling, non-inclusive attitudes at the workplace and the lack of initiatives to empower all employees in equal measure still plague the corporate landscape.
College-based societies like Women in Management seek to build gender-inclusive mind sets in students, entrepreneurs and corporates. The recent past has seen the establishment of several such groups in institutions around the globe. Women in Management (WIM) at IIMB, through the multifarious events and initiatives it organises throughout the academic year, hopes to create awareness about such issues and bring about a significant change in mind sets. IIMB Women in Management aims at encouraging leadership amongst women, and awareness amongst all students, through activities such as talks, workshops and mentoring. WIM not only provides them with an opportunity to form better networks but also gives them an idea of issues pertinent to women in top management positions.
